WHO IS TAMIR GOODMAN? Tamir Goodman, 28, fell in love with the game of basketball at age six and garnered national media attention while starring at the Talmudical Academy of Baltimore, where he was rated one of the top 25 high school players in the country, averaging 35.4 points his junior year, leading to a full athletic scholarship offer from the University of Maryland.
The 6'3" point guard, whose story was covered by 60 Minutes, ESPN, Fox Sports, and in a 4 page Sports Illustrated spread where he was dubbed "the Jewish Jordan," spread turned down the offer because of a schedule which would have required him to play on Shabbat. Instead, he accepted to play for Towson State University which changed the entire American East Conference schedule, making most of their games not conflict with Shabbat.
Tamir signed with Euro League champion Maccabi Tel Aviv after two years at Towson. He played professionaly in Israel for five seasons, reaching the Israeli Cup finals and Israeli Premier League Semifinals in 2003 and 2008.

Tamir, who also served in the IDF, currently lives in Cleveland with his wife and three children where he is a spokesperson for the Maccabi Haifa Professional Basketball Club and is also the director of Haifa Hoops For Kids, a non-profit organization that empowers underprivileged and special needs children in Israel through sport. The Goodman family will be living at Camp Mesorah for the entire summer. Tamir's wife will assist with the fitness and culinary programs and Tamir will inspire campers with his now world famous presentations throughout the Mesorah 2010 Shabbatot.
